Just after 2:00 a.m. on October 30, 2022, Little Rock Police Officers with the Southwest Division were called to 6 York Drive in reference to a shooting. Communications advised officers that the caller stated he shot his brother. When officers arrived they discovered David Royal III suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. MEMS arrived and attempted life saving measures, but Mr. Royal died at the scene. The Coroner was contacted and responded, before transporting the body of Mr. Royal to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy. 

Homicide Detectives and the Crime Scene Search Unit responded to the scene and began a preliminary investigation after canvassing the area and speaking to witnesses. Avreyon Carter, the brother of Mr. Royal was taken into custody and transported to the Major Crimes Division for questioning. As a result of that investigation, Mr. Carter was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder and transported to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility without incident. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Southwest Division.
