On Saturday, March 12, 2022, Little Rock Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 5000 block of
West 65th Street. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with Maliek Brookins, 24, of Little Rock, who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers then discovered another victim, in a white sedan, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds as well. MEMS was notified and responded. Mr. Brookins was transported to UAMS. The victim in the white sedan died at the scene. The Coroner responded and took custody of the deceased body and transported it to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy and positive ID.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Search Unit was notified and responded. Detectives canvassed the apartment complex and made contact with several witnesses. They also accessed video surveillance. Per the investigation and video evidence, Maliek Brookins was developed as a suspect. Capital Murder
warrants were issued for Mr. Brookins. He is still undergoing treatment at UAMS and will be charged and transported to PCRJ once he is discharged.
This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Southwest Division.
