Patrol Officers with the Southwest Division responded to 5517 West 51st Street for a shooting call for service at 7:48 p.m., on Thursday, October 12, 2023. When officers arrived, they discovered 40-year-old Mario Collins suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. MEMS and RESCUE responded, however, Mr. Collins died at the scene.  Officers secured the area and notified Homicide Detectives. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner responded to the scene and transported the body of Mr. Collins to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was notified.

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Southwest Division.
