Patrol Officers with the 12th Street Division responded to a Shot Spotter Activation in the area of 3002 Washington Street on Sunday, March 26, 2023. MEMS and LRFD were notified and responded to the crime scene. When officers arrived, they located several victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. One victim, 20-year-old Malachi Carey, was pronounced dead at the scene. Six(6) victims were transported to local hospitals, one of the victims, 20-year-old Jailene Washington, succumbed to his injuries. The crime scene was secured, and Homicide Detectives were notified and responded. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner responded and transported both deceased victims to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance, as well as conducted interviews with witnesses. The next of kin has been notified. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the 12th Street Division.
