At 5:16 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, 12th Street Patrol Officers responded to a shots fired call for service at 1109 Washington Street. While en route, officers were intercepted by a vehicle in front of the 12th Street Station. Officers approached the vehicle and discovered two juvenile victims inside suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene; the other victim was transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment. Officers secured the area and notified Homicide Detectives. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner responded and transported the deceased victim to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was notified.

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the 12th Street Division.

#Update:  Taquan Porter-Baker, 22, Markeise Murphy, 19, Bryant Thompson Jr, 23, and 16-year-old Charless Gantt III were arrested and charged with Capital Murder and First Degree Battery in connection with this homicide. On February 16, 2024, 24-year-old Courtney Hood was also arrested in connection with this homicide and charged with Captial Murder.
