UPDATE: On June 7, The City of Little Rock announced it has pushed back the deadline for storm debris to be placed curbside. The new deadline is Sunday, June 25.

LITTLE ROCK – The City of Little Rock’s ongoing storm debris collection in tornado-damaged areas will end next month. Residents are asked to place any remaining debris at curbside no later than Sunday, June 11 to ensure pick-up.

After June 11, the City’s debris removal contractor will make a final sweep through impacted neighborhoods to collect any remaining debris on residential properties. No additional debris will be collected by the contractor after that time. Residents are reminded to place debris within at least 10 feet of the curb. Yard waste and construction debris must be divided into separate piles.

As of this week, the debris contractor has collected more than 360,000 cubic yards of debris during its collection period, which began April 20.

Debris collection has slowed from about 15,000 cubic yards a day to as little as 5,000 cubic yards daily. Based on that slow-down, city officials selected June 11 as the final day for debris to be set at the curb for removal.

While the debris collection phase of tornado response winds down, the City continues its recovery efforts. Last week, Mayor Frank Scott, Jr., announced plans for distribution of nearly $510,000 in donations raised through Little Rock Cares. Meanwhile, to date, the City’s Planning and Development Department has waived more than $145,000 worth of permit fees in impacted neighborhoods.
