University District Neighborhoods to Host

County Wide Vegetable Swap & Trade

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (July 1, 2014) – The University District Neighborhoods Association will host the first organized vegetable swap-and-trade in Pulaski County.  The event will take place Saturday, July 12, at Curran Conway Park (25th & Harrison Streets) in Little Rock from 8am until noon.

Gardeners from throughout Pulaski County are invited to swap and trade vegetables, fruits, eggs, flowers, and plants from their gardens’ bounties with other gardeners.  All items are to be swapped or traded with no cash being exchanged.

Every home gardener knows that they will have one variety or type of plant that is prolific and produces much more than they can use.  The concept of the vegetable swap and trade is, “You have too many tomatoes, I have too many peppers, and together, we have salsa!”   The event will allow gardeners to visit, gather information on new items, share gardening tips and recipes, and share the excesses of their gardens.

The Vegetable Swap and Trade is made possible by a grant from the Blue & You Foundation in support of healthy living and nutritional education programs in the University District.

The University District Neighborhoods Association is made up of ten neighborhoods that surround the University of Arkansas at Little Rock including Broadmoor, Broadmoor North, College Terrace, Curran-Conway, Fair Park, Oak Forest, Point O’ Woods, South of Asher, University Park and War Memorial neighborhoods.
