Public Notice
City of Little Rock Public Relations (501) 371-6801
On Wednesday January 1, 2025, at 8:25 p.m., downtown patrol officers responded to 2104 S. State Street in reference to an assault. Initial officers arrived at the reference location but discovered a vehicle had struck the residence at 2108 S. State Street where a gas line had also been ruptured. The Little Rock Fire Department was notified and responded. Once on scene, officers and LRFD officials checked for occupants in the home and discovered 64-year-old MaryAnn Hansen, deceased from an apparent stab wound. Additional officers and fire personnel arrived and began contacting other residents to evacuate the area due to the gas leak. That took officers back to 2104 S. State Street where they located 64-year-old Marcia Glasper, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers immediately began life-saving measures. MEMS was notified and responded to transport the victim to an area hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition.
Subsequently, responding officers obtained suspect information and began circulating the area. A short time later, a two-officer unit located an individual walking in the 1600 block of South Broadway who matched the suspects' description and was covered with blood. Officer’s initiated contact with this individual who was in possession of a knife. The individual, later identified as 43-year-old Sidney Glasper, was given verbal commands to drop his weapon, but he refused to comply and continued approaching the officers. This direct action by the individual placed officers in a position to use deadly force. Officers then discharged their service weapon, striking the individual. The scene was then secured, and life-saving measures were initiated until MEMS arrived on scene. Sidney Glasper died at the scene. Homicide Detectives and the Crime Scene Search Unit responded and began an investigation. Detectives canvassed the area for surveillance footage and witnesses. The Pulaski County Coroner also responded and took possession of Ms. Hansen and Mr. Glasper for an autopsy and next of kin was notified.
This is an ongoing investigation and since this incident involved officers discharging service weapons, an internal investigation has begun. A separate criminal investigation is also underway. The officers have also been placed on administrative leave.
