Utility Savings Ideas Will Be Promoted to Little Rock’s Senior Population

(Tuesday, March 25, 2008) – Plans were announced today for the “Savings for Seniors” seminar which will be held on Thursday, March 27. There will be two sessions: one from 9am to 12 noon, the other from 1pm to 4pm.  It will take place at the Willie L. Hinton Neighborhood Resource Center, located at the corner of 3805 West 12th Street, at the corner of 12th and Pine Streets.

“We realize that many seniors are on fixed income,” said City Director Joan Adcock in making the announcement. “Utility bills keep rising, but the money to pay those bills doesn’t increase. ‘Savings for Seniors’ offers ideas for saving money and increasing efficiency.”

“One of the Alert Center facilitators, Dwight Pridgeon, brought this idea to the City,” said Director Adcock. “As we shared this with the local utilities and other partners, everyone enthusiastically joined in. This is just another example of how our Alert Center facilitators are proactively advocating for the residents they serve.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear ideas for saving money, receive free items, win door prizes, and fill out applications for special programs offered by the various partners. Additionally, if seniors have received a utility shut-off notice, they are encouraged to bring a copy of this notice so that they can discuss it with utility representatives.

Transportation is available. To arrange for this, seniors need to contact 501-379-1515.

Joining Director Adcock at the event will be Sen. Irma Hunter Brown and City Directors Erma Hendrix and Ken Richardson.

Participating organizations include Entergy, CenterPoint Energy, Central Arkansas Water, Little Rock Wastewater, Little Rock Fire Department, Little Rock Police Department, Little Rock Parks & Recreation Department, CADC, Home Depot, CareLinks, the Arkansas Department of Human Services, and Little Rock Housing & Neighborhood Programs Department.
