At 12:42 p.m., on Sunday July 7, 2024, patrol officers with the 12th Street Division were dispatched to Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) and made aware of a child abuse report from the Jacksonville Police Department involving Justin and Deja Rollins. When officers arrived at ACH, security advised they received a phone call from Jacksonville Police at 12:30 p.m. informing them of four (4) victims inside a vehicle in the parking lot. The victims were removed from the vehicle by ACH security and taken inside the hospital where they appeared to be suffering from heat exhaustion. Officers observed the four victims being treated in the hospital. 

On Monday, July 8, 2024, one of the victims, 2-year-old Jay’Dien Rollins, succumbed to his injuries and Homicide Detectives with the LRPD were notified and began an investigation. During the investigation, detectives obtained an affidavit for Capital Murder for Justin and Deja Rollins. The warrants were served, and an affidavit submitted to the Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney’s office. Mr. and Mrs. Rollins were also charged with 1st Degree Child Endangerment for the surviving children. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner responded to the hospital and transported the deceased victim to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was notified. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the 12th Street Division.
