City Officials Expect It to Reopen on Friday, December 5

(Little Rock – December 4, 2008) The flagship of Little Rock’s River Market District, the River Market Ottenheimer Hall (commonly referred to as the River Market) is closed today due to a fire in the offices last night.

At approximately 7:30 pm Wednesday, December 3, 2008, the second floor of the River Market building was burglarized and set on fire. The offices received moderate damage.

The Ottenheimer Market Hall was not damaged by the fire; however it did receive minor smoke damage. The facility is closed today so that City crews can clean the building. Following inspection by the State Health Department, the Market Hall should reopen for business as usual on Friday, December 5.

Andina’s Café, located on the western end of the building outside of the actual Market Hall, is open for business today. Because it was in a separate area of the building, it received no damage from smoke.

The Little Rock Police Department is investigating the crime.
