Little Rock residents will soon see the benefits of public art in their City when two sculptures are installed on Thursday, October 18th. The first installation is at the Riverfront Park near the Junction Bridge and the second will be at the Rebsamen Road Roundabout.

A one of kind 15 foot sculpture constructed of stainless steel, glass and bronze to be installed tomorrow is the winner of the 2011 Sculpture at the River Market people’s choice award. Preview party attendees filled out ballots and voted on their favorite piece. “The Center” by artist Chapel received the most votes. It will be placed at 8:00 a.m. in Riverfront Park west of the Junction Bridge and is schedule to be dedicated on Friday at 2:00 p.m.

The Rebsamen Road Roundabout art work is a free-flowing sculptural expression in stainless steel by artist Kevin Robb titled “Playing Ball.”  This 16 foot high piece of public art will provide a unique quality to the landscape design of the roundabout. Little Rock landscape architect Chris Olsen is donating his design and maintenance service for the roundabout. This beautification project is made possible through a partnership of the City of Little Rock, Sculpture at the River Market and the Keep Little Rock Beautiful Commission. These public art installations lead up to the annual Sculpture at the River Market Show and Sale held at the River Market Pavilions. The preview party will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 19th and will have music by Elise Davis with a cocktail buffet.  Tickets are $100.00 each.

This year a new after party will begin at 9:00 p.m. on Friday and is targeted for a younger crowd. Bronze & Brewskis has a $25.00 ticket price and will feature music my Velvet Kente and food by Hot Dog Mike and Copper Grill. Ticket information is available at www.SculptureattheRiverMarket.com.

The annual show and sale will continue Saturday and Sunday at the River Market Pavilions and is free and open to the public. All of the sculptures are for sale and have many price points. The artists will be at their booths to discuss their work during the preview party and throughout the weekend.  Also, well known horticulturalist Janet Carson will conduct a free lecture on the placement of sculpture in the garden at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Sculpture at the River Market is a 501© 3 non-profit. All proceeds from the annual show and sale go to purchasing and maintaining public art in Riverfront Park and throughout Little Rock.
