LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 14, 2015) – City officials and community members will help kick off the renovation work for the Josephine Pankey Station, which will serve as a west Little Rock police substation and community center, with a construction celebration Monday, Oct. 19, at 13700 Cantrell Road.

The City of Little Rock entered an agreement with Pankey Community Improvement Association Inc. to lease the property and complete construction on the 6,415-square-foot structure to add facilities for a police substation, landscape, build a parking lot, and install a fueling area for police and other City vehicles.

Once completed, the structure is expected to house a Little Rock Police Department substation in 3,815 square feet and a community center in the other 2,600 square feet. The substation will allow the police department to improve response times in the West Little Rock area while also serving as a gathering place for community activities.

“The new station will provide a dedicated and localized police presence to keep this area safe,” said Little Rock City Manager Bruce Moore. “This project, like the one that gave us the 12th Street Station, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to strengthening communities all across the City, beginning with public safety."

Moser Construction is managing the remodel of the building. Funding for the $1.3 million project will come from the West Little Rock Police Renovation project from the 3/8 Cent Capital Sales Tax passed in 2011, the 911/311 project account, and a contribution from Fleet Services for the fuel tank.
