WHAT:      Beginning Monday, Dec. 8 at 7 a.m., Main Street between Capitol Avenue and Sixth Street will be closed to through vehicle traffic. The closure is needed to continue progress on the Main Street Creative Corridor. The lack of vehicular traffic will also maintain a safe working environment for construction crews and the general public. The closure is expected to last four weeks. During this time, the 500 block will close from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will reopen at night.  Pedestrian and bicycle traffic to businesses, residences and job sites will be allowed at all times.

                 The 500 block of Main Street is part of Little Rock’s award-winning Creative Corridor project. Once completed, this low-impact development will feature rain gardens, bioswales, and porous pavers. This features will provide a sustainable water treatment strategy that avoids flooding and provides a water supply to the plants planned for the area. The 500 block will eventually feature more than 1,300 plants including 26 trees. The City of Little Rock will start landscaping in this block when the street reopens and expects to plant all new vegetation by next spring.

WHO:         This street closure impacts the traveling public as well as owners, tenants and workers in the 500 block of Main Street.
