Little Rock Neighborhood Wins Award at NUSA Conference

(Little Rock – May 29, 2012)

The Wright Avenue Neighborhood Association won 2nd place for its project “Movies on the Boulevard” at the recent Neighborhoods, USA (NUSA) conference held in Indianapolis Indiana. This recognition was a part of the larger Neighborhood of the Year Awards.

“We are so proud of team NUSA,” said City Director Joan Adcock. “The Wright Avenue Neighborhood Association won in the category of Social Revitatlization/Neighborliness. This can serve as a role model for other neighborhoods in Little Rock and encourage them to take action to make our community a better place.”

In August of last year, the Wright Avenue Neighborhood Association held a very successful, free, outdoor movie night that included free concessions.

“The idea was to have an experience that would allow us to bond as a community,” said President Sheila Miles. “This free movie night did just that. Everyone felt safe and there was a sense of unity.”

Neighborhoods, USA (NUSA) is a national non-profit organization committed to building and strengthening neighborhood organizations.  Each year the NUSA Board of Directors recognizes the commitment and work of neighborhoods in awarding the "Neighborhood of the Year" recipients.  The "Neighborhood of the Year" award has been presented since 1984 as a collective "thank you" for the hard work by neighborhoods, and is the only national award given on an ongoing basis to neighborhood organizations for their self-help initiatives.
