What: Native Knowledge Sculpture Dedication

When: Saturday, June 23, 2012 – 10:00 a.m.

Where: Riverfront Park by La Petite Roche at the foot of the Junction Bridge

The City of Little Rock is excited to unveil the latest monument sculpture added to the collection of sculptures in Riverfront Park. This is the latest of many pieces of public art have been generously donated by the non-profit group Sculpture at the River Market.

The sculpture is titled Native Knowledge and is a tribute to the Caddo, Osage, and Quapaw Native American Cultures of Arkansas.  Artist Denny Haskew created this important and relevant piece of work. The three life-size figures are individually titled “Give of Yourself,” “Respect all that is Natural,” and “Observe Nature.” The back sides of these stone panels are etched with graphic designs inspired by pottery from each of the three Native American tribes.

Native Knowledge will join the collection of sculptures that are placed both throughout Riverfront Park and in the Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden, which is directly east of the Peabody Hotel. Every year Sculpture at the River Market holds a sculpture show and sale at the River Market Pavilions, which is sponsored by the City of Little Rock and the Sculpture at the River Market. Proceeds from the sale of artwork fund public art for the City of Little Rock.

This year’s event is scheduled for October 19-21. Admission to the show is free. On Friday, October 19th, there will be a preview party where patrons can get the first chance to see the artwork, visit with the sculptors, and make purchases.
