LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 2, 2015) – Nearly two dozen community events will take place across Little Rock the night of Tuesday, Oct. 6, as residents, neighborhood groups, police officers, and city officials join in National Night Out.

The initiative, now in its third decade, promotes partnerships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve, all with the goal of creating safe neighborhoods and a sense of community.

Across the nation, 38.1 million residents in more than 16,000 communities will gather for festivals, cookouts, block parties, and celebrations to build neighborhood camaraderie and forge new friendships. The City of Little Rock is organizing 20 such events in partnership with neighborhood associations.

The Little Rock Police Department and the Housing and Neighborhood Programs Department help lead the events each year, many of which take place in community centers around the city. City officials will be attending some of the events.

“The City works every day to build stronger and safer communities, and we see neighborhood associations and residents with that same commitment contributing to those efforts,” said Andre Bernard, director of Housing and Neighborhood Programs. “National Night Out is about strengthening those partnerships to create safe environments to live, work, and play.”
