City of Little Rock Public Relations (501) 371-6801
Jennifer Godwin | (o) 501 371 4421 | (c) 501 804 4822LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Residents, neighborhood groups, police officers, and city officials will come together Tuesday, Oct. 4, to commemorate National Night Out at more than 20 community events taking place across Little Rock.
Millions of people across the United States gather for festivals, cookouts, block parties, and celebrations to build neighborhood camaraderie and forge relationships with city departments such as police and neighborhood programs. The initiative’s mission is to build up partnerships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve, all with the goal of creating safer neighborhoods and a sense of community
The City of Little Rock is organizing 15 of the events in partnership with neighborhood associations, while six other events are being held in various communities across the city. The Little Rock Police Department and the Housing and Neighborhood Programs Department help lead the events each year, many of which take place in community centers around the city. City officials and employees will be attending many of the events. A special guest speaker, local author Edmond Davis, will attend the community awareness celebration at Mann Road Neighborhood Resource Center.
“This is a day we look forward to every year. It is encouraging to see neighborhood associations and residents come together with our city employees to celebrate our communities,” said Victor Turner, interim director of Housing and Neighborhood Programs. “The fellowship from this night carries over into the entire year.”
