LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Averaging more than 200 miles per day for a year, Kurt Searvogel reached an extra special finish line Jan. 9 — breaking the world record for the most miles ridden in a single year on a bicycle, known as the highest annual mileage record, or HAM’R. His last day of competition, he surpassed 76,076 miles. The last record was set in 1939.

A reception honoring Searvogel will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, beginning with a celebratory “victory lap” along the Little Rock side of the Arkansas River Trail. The ride is open to guests and will maintain a casual social pace. Following the ride, friends and family will enjoy a BBQ picnic and social hour to celebrate this feat.

Searvogel’s new world record was made official earlier this week by the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association and accepted into the Guinness World Records. His year-long trek has garnered national attention in the sports world, and his friends and fans are thankful to welcome him back to celebrate in the city he calls home.
