Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola is stepping up to the plate Thursday, Aug. 6, to get behind a national pastime as part of the United States Conference of Mayors’ support of Major League Baseball’s “Play Ball” initiative.
The mayor will be at Dickey-Stephens Park, home of the Arkansas Travelers Minor League Baseball team, to help kick off the Legends for Youth Baseball Clinic, a free program that promotes the game of baseball for all youth ages 6 – 16.
Former Major League Baseball Players will be on hand to teach up to 200 participants the fundamentals of the game as well as life skills. Activities will include base running, throwing, hitting, catching, and pitching.
August is designated as “Play Ball Month,” with initiatives such as the Youth Baseball Clinic being held across the country.
“Encouraging our community’s youth to get involved and be active is important to our City,” says Stodola. “Recreational activities like our national pastime improve the quality of life for families here by making exercise a central component of a healthy lifestyle.”
Stodola is one of 130 mayors from around the U.S. to sign the Play Ball pledge.
