When: Sunday, October 6th – 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Where: River Market West Pavilion

Mayor Mark Stodola is challenging Little Rock residents to put their cars in park and leave them that way for one week. The 3rd Annual Mayor’s Car Free Challenge officially begins Monday, October 7th. In preparation for this week, a Safety and Learning Fair will be held at the River Market West Pavilion on Sunday, October 6th from 1:00-3:00. The Mayor will make remarks to the media at 1:30 p.m.

Participants can get tips on pedestrian and bike safety and sign up for car pooling. Also, the Central Arkansas Transit Authority is partnering with the City of Little Rock for this challenge and will have a bus on hand to answer questions such as:

  • How to put your bike on a bus
  • How to find bus schedules
  • Where to buy tickets
  • And many more

“Little Rock offers its residents many ways to travel through the City and this week-long challenge is a great way to try them out,” said Mayor Stodola.  “Taking the bus or riding your bike is good for the environment and your waistline!  I would like to personally encourage all citizens to put away your car keys for just one week and find out how easy and satisfying this can be.”

Also, at the Fair, participants can pick up their Car Free Challenge Score Card. When they turn the card in at the end of the week, they will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win prizes.

Also, new this year, participants can enter the prize drawing by discussing their involvement in the event on Twitter using #CarFreeLR. The drawing will be held on Sunday, October 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Bernice Gardens at 1401 South Main Street.

The Mayor will kick off his car free week by taking the bus to City Hall on Monday October 7th and will be joined by the new Executive Director of CATA, Jarod Varner. They will be at the bus stop on the corner of Kavanaugh and Fillmore Streets shortly before 8:00 a.m. for the ride downtown.
