Removal of Invasive Privet Hedge Is the Goal; Public Invited to Help

(Little Rock – February 25, 2009) Parks and Recreation personnel and volunteers will meet on Saturday to cut down privet in Little Rock’s Allsopp Park. Privet hedge is an invasive plant which crowds out other vegetation. It causes problems in natural drainage systems and detracts from the beauty of the park.

Volunteers are being sought to help in this effort. Anyone interested in helping should show up between 8am and 2pm in Allsopp Park North. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves, shears, bow saws, and digging tools. The City will have some of these items, but only has a limited supply.

The staff and volunteers will gather at Allsopp Park North (at the bottom of Cantrell Hill). Due to limited parking, people are asked to park in the T J Raney building parking lot or the Boy Scout headquarters.

This event was previously set for February 21, but was postponed due to rain.
