LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (December 1, 2016) – The Little Rock Fire Department is ramping up its community-focused initiatives through the holiday season, including a partnership with the nonprofit Reach Out on its 12th Annual Christmas Caravan to help homeless and low-income neighbors who often go without presents or even a full meal on Christmas.
The caravan will take place Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Clinton Presidential Library parking lot. Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m., with the caravan coming in at 8 a.m. to distribute clothing, blankets, toiletries and other items. A Fire Department engine will act as sleigh for Santa and Mrs. Claus as they make a special delivery of gifts for children at 9:30 a.m.
The Fire Department stays highly active in the community throughout the year, from Citizen Fire Academy classes and CPR training to Fire Safety Day and school-based activities.
Each winter, the Fire Department also participates in a toy drive to collect gifts for those in the foster care system at the Department of Human Services. Last year, firefighters spent Christmas Eve delivering bundles of presents and complete Christmas meals to several families in need.
To further spread holiday cheer this year, the Fire Department has decorated one of its fire engines with Christmas lights. A crew will visit various neighborhoods, special events, and shopping venues in the evening hours throughout the month of December. To schedule a visit to a neighborhood or event, call 918-3700 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
