Poetry Contest to Celebrate Literacy


Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, in partnership with the Arkansas Literary Festival, Power 92 Jams, and the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center , a museum of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, will host the first annual Spoken Word Live! Poetry Contest.

The event will take place on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center . The event is free and open to the public. Mosaic Templars Cultural Center is located at 501 W. Ninth Street in Little Rock . Power 92’s Assistant Program Director / Afternoon Drive Host Tré Day, Everyday, All Day will host the event.

Applicants can submit original poetry via the Power 92 Jams radio station website at www.power923.com or in person at Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site visitor center through April 3, 2009. Finalists will be judge by local celebrities and have an opportunity to win cash prizes - $500 for first place, $250 for second place, and $150 for third place . This is a ticketed event. Tickets are free and limited to 2 per person; they are available by calling 501-683-3593, e-mail phyllis@arkansasheritage.org or visiting the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center beginning April 1, 2009, through Friday, April 17, 2009. Seats can only be guaranteed until Friday, April 17, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.

Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site is located at 2120 Daisy L. Gatson Bates Drive , diagonally across the street from Central High School .
