(Little Rock, AR – October 20, 2008) Motorists who wish to vote early for the November 4 General Election in downtown Little Rock will not have to worry about the parking meter expiring while they are voting. The City of Little Rock announced today that parking tickets will not be issued within a two block radius of the early voting location in downtown Little Rock.

The suspension of parking tickets around the early voting site will continue through November 3, 2008.

“It is important that people who are participating in the opportunity to vote are focused on the candidates and the issues, not on how much time remains on their parking meter,” said City Manager Bruce T. Moore.

Early voting started today at nine different locations throughout Pulaski County. The suspension of parking tickets only applies to the location downtown at the Jeffrey Hawkins Center, located at 501 West Markham (across from Little Rock City Hall). That is the only Little Rock location which has parking meters in the vicinity.
The boundaries for the two block radius of the downtown early voting site are Markham Street on the north, Center Street on the east, 3rd Street on the south, and State Street on the west.

Within those boundaries, tickets will be issued only if vehicle is parked in handicapped spot without proper designation, if a vehicle is parked in a fire lane, or if the flow of traffic is otherwise obstructed by a vehicle.

The early voting locations in Pulaski County are: Jeffrey Hawkins Center, 501 W Markham St., Little Rock; Sue Cowan Williams Library, 1800 S. Chester St., Little Rock; Dee Brown Library, 6325 Baseline Rd., Little Rock; Roosevelt Thompson Library, 38 Rahling Cr., Little Rock; Sid McMath Library, 2100 John Barrow Rd, Little Rock; William F. Laman Library, 2801 Orange St., North Little Rock; Jacksonville City Hall, #1 Industrial Dr., Jacksonville; Jess Odom Community Center, 100 Edgewood Dr., Maumelle; and Jack Evans Senior Center, 2301 Thornhill Dr., Sherwood.
