Little Rock Dunbar Community Centers to Offer Daytime Respite
(Tuesday, January 29, 2008)–In light of the expected freezing temperatures later this week, Little Rock City Manager Bruce T. Moore announced today that a Warming Center would be opened to offer Little Rock residents a daytime break from the winter chill.
The Warming Center will be located at the Dunbar Community Center located at 1001 West 16th Street. The Warming Center will be opened Thursday, January 31, and Friday February 1, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm as a warming center for homeless and elderly citizens to come in from the cold temperatures that are expected those days. The Center will continue to operate on an as-needed basis on weekdays when day time temperatures do not get above 35 degrees.
This initiative has been a combined effort of the City of Little Rock, Mayors’ Commission on Homelessness, the Little Rock Parks & Recreation Department, Arkansas Homeless Coalition, Second Chance Foundation, Central Arkansas Water, and the Arkansas Foodbank Network.
“This is an example of various public agencies working together with volunteers to serve the citizens of Little Rock,” said City Manager Bruce T. Moore. “This spirit of collaboration is key as we continue to address the City’s needs. I am grateful to the groups that are working with the City in offering this service.”
