Little Rock Seniors Recognized by City Board of Directors

West Central Badgers Win State Bean Bag Baseball Championship

(Little Rock, AR – May 13, 2014)

Their average age is 70, but there’s nothing average about the West Central Badgers. This feisty team of senior citizens will be recognized tonight by the City of Little Rock Board of Directors for winning the 2014 State Championship in Beanbag Baseball. The meeting begins at 4:00 p.m.

The Badgers practice at the West Central Senior Activity Center. It is run in partnership with the John Barrow Neighborhood Association.  Volunteers say their goal was to keep senior citizens active. They have done that and then some. Over the past several years, Beanbag Baseball has become a passion for about a dozen team members.

Since 2008, the West Central Beanbag Baseball team, known as the Badgers, has traveled to Greenbrier, Jonesboro, Des Arc, Brinkley, Sherwood, North Little rock, Conway, and Benton to compete in seasonal play.

In 2013 the Badgers went undefeated – but they are not a group that rests on its laurels.  A few weeks ago in Paragould, the State Tournament was held and the Badgers brought home the big prize.  Team members say this was the most exciting tournament they've experienced!

When a Badger player wins during his or her toss, they ring a big cowbell. Additionally, they came up with a team cheer:

Frogs leap to it

            Badgers Run to it

            We do it

‘Cause we're used to it

Watch out Major League Baseball, the Badgers have come to play! Team members will be recognized at the beginning of tonight’s meeting at 4:00 p.m.
