Laura Martin | (o) 501 371 4540LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 29, 2016) – The City of Little Rock’s Communications Center is extending the hours that residents can call 311 with nonemergency fireworks-related reports during the Fourth of July holiday.
Beginning Saturday, July 2, residents can call 311 to report fireworks within the City limits from 6 p.m. – 2 a.m. Those hours will also be in effect Sunday, July 3, and Monday, July 4. For calls before 6 p.m. or after 2 a.m., residents can call the nonemergency police number at 501-371-4829.
For emergencies, residents should still call 911.
Fireworks are prohibited within Little Rock’s City limits. City Code Section 18-103 states that no one can possess, manufacture, store, sell, or use fireworks except in accordance with the fire prevention code.
The purpose of the consumer fireworks ban is to protect the health and safety of residents and their property. Fireworks cause around 18,500 reported fires in the United States each year, and thousands of emergency room visits, according to the National Fire Prevention Association. Sparklers, which may look innocuous, account for more than 25 percent of emergency room fireworks injuries.
The Little Rock Fire Department is urging everyone, especially those living outside the city limits, to follow safety rules regarding fireworks. Those can be found at http://www.littlerock.gov/citydepartments/fire/fireworkscode.aspx
Fire officials encourage residents to attend one of the professional fireworks displays taking place on the holiday.
