With forecasters predicting winter weather to hit central Arkansas this weekend, the City of Little Rock is preparing.

In fact, preparations began all the way back in October, when Fleet Services started tuning up vehicles, readying sand/salt trucks, and checking equipment like snow tires. The sand/salt mixture used on roads and bridges is stored in three locations around the City for easier access. The mixture will be applied to streets the first sign of freezing precipitation.

The Public Works Department is placing crews on standby for Saturday, including six sand/salt trucks, an equipment operator, and staff. If the sand/salt is needed, crews will begin work on established snow routes.

If the winter weather conditions are severe enough, crews will run back-to-back 24-hour coverage as long as necessary.

While the City is nearly back to normal after the rains and flooding from the end of 2015 and beginning of the new year, Rebsamen Golf Course will stay closed over the weekend.
