Race Officials Anticipating 10,000 Participants for 2008 Season

LITTLE ROCK, AR – Online registration is now open for the 2008 Little Rock Marathon Runapolozza Weekend on February 29, 2008 – March 2, 2008. Discounted registration fees extended to November 1, 2007.

Events include the Little Rock Marathon, presented by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the Little Rock Half Marathon, presented by Baptist Health, the Little Rock Marathon Relay, the Little Rock 5K Fun Run/Walk, the Little Rockers Kids Marathon, presented by Arkansas Children’s Hospital and Today’s THV, the Classic Rockers 55+ Marathon, and the Little Rock Health & Fitness Expo, presented by Arvest Bank.

Registration for the Little Rocker’s Kids Marathon and Classic Rockers 55+ Senior Marathon will open September 1, 2007.

Training for the 2008 races begins in late September with an expanded training schedule and training locations anticipated.

"We're expecting a record number of participants for our sixth race," said Gina Marchese Pharis, executive director. "We're encouraging as many people as possible to sign up early to make sure they have a spot for Six in the City. We will be limiting the field of race day participants this year and anticipate reaching those limits in early February."

The 2007 event (held earlier this year) saw a 7% increase in participation with more than 8,800 participants in the various training programs and races according to Pharis.

“As always, we have many exciting things in store for 2008 and plan to step it up a notch all across the board” said Pharis.

The Little Rock Marathon is also sponsored in part by the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau; Image one of Little Rock and the Bill Titus Family.

On line registration is available at www.littlerockmarathon.com through February 21, 2008. Paper registration forms for all races will be available at the Little Rock Parks and Recreation office located in the City of Little Rock’s City Hall, participating sponsors, and most fitness facilities across the state in mid-October. Paper entry forms must be postmarked by February 21, 2008, then individuals must register at the Little Rock Marathon Health & Fitness Expo at the Statehouse Convention Center race weekend.
