Fire Stations, Local Wal-Marts Are Collection Sites

(Wednesday, November 23, 2005) – For the second year, the Little Rock Fire Department is sponsoring a toy drive to benefit children in Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) programs. The drive kicks off on Friday, November 25 and runs through December 19. The toys will be delivered to the DHHS Division of Children and Family Services. Last year’s effort netted over 3,000 toys.

Toys can be delivered to Little Rock Fire Stations, which are displaying signs out front advertising the toy drive. Donations may also be dropped off at two Wal-Mart locations in Little Rock on November 25th and 26th, and December 3rd, 10th, and 17th. Those locations are the Wal-Mart stores at 8801 Baseline and at 700 S. Bowman. Fire trucks will be located in the parking lots
at these Wal-Marts.

“This event was such a success last year,” said Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr. “We at the Fire Department were so touched by the generosity of Little Rock citizens. At the conclusion of last year’s drive, we started talking about this year’s effort. We believe it is our mission to be involved in the community. This is one small way to help, and we are glad to be able to do so.”

On Tuesday, December 20th, Chief Kerr will be joined by other Little Rock Fire Department personnel in delivering the toys from the Central Fire Station at 7th and Chester to the DHHS offices at 7th and Main.
