Banking Veteran Succeeds Gene Fortson
(Little Rock, AR—October 17, 2006) Little Rock banker Virgil Miller became the newest member of the Little Rock Airport Commission after being selected by the Little Rock City Board tonight. Miller, Senior Vice President – Director of Community Development for Metropolitan National Bank, succeeds Gene Fortson who resigned his position after becoming a member of the Little Rock City Board of Directors. Miller was chosen out of a field of nineteen candidates. He will serve a five year term expiring in December 2011.
Miller is a veteran of Little Rock civic involvement. He currently serves as co-chair of the Central High Integration 50th Anniversary Commission and co-chaired the Vision Little Rock community-wide planning process in 2000 and 2001. Miller also serves as Chair of the Arkansas Capitol Corporation Board and Chair of the Little Rock Residential Housing and Public Facilities Board. He is a board member of Baptist Health, Heart of Arkansas United Way, and the Little Rock Public Education Foundation.
The other members of the Airport Commission are Kay Kelley Arnold, Robert East, Dr. Carl Johnson, Larry Lichty, Jimmy Moses, and Thomas Schueck. The Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission was created by Arkansas Code Annotated 14-359-101 et. seq. and Little Rock City Code, Sec. 7-26 & 27. Its seven members serve five-year terms. The duties of the commission are to manage, operate, extend and maintain the Little Rock National Airport, related properties and facilities and adopt such rules and regulations as deemed necessary.
