(Little Rock, AR – November 5, 2008) November 3-8, 2008, is National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week throughout the United States. This is the first year ever for this designation. Locally, the volunteers and staff of the City of Little Rock’s Animal Village are partnering with area businesses to celebrate this event.

The Little Rock Animal Village is sponsoring an adoption day this Saturday, November 8, from 10am to 4pm. According to Tracy Roark, Little Rock’s Animal Services Manager, “Neighboring Humane Societies, shelters from nearby cities, and animal rescue groups will join us at the Little Rock Animal Village where people will find the largest number of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens available at one time in one single place.”

National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week is a chance to spotlight the accomplishments and identify the needs of shelters, whose business encompasses tough and thankless tasks.

According to City Director Joan Adcock a member of the Animal Services Advisory Board, “It's also a week to feel joyful about the happy endings achieved when a homeless dogs and cats are adopted.”

The Little Rock Animal Village will have hotdogs, chips and drinks for sale as a fund raiser for adoption efforts.

Ten other organizations have requested space at the event and will have many dogs and cats for adoption.

In support of the Little Rock Animal Village, Crain Ford, Dodge and Chevrolet will donate a 40 pound bag of dog food to the shelter for every car sold the whole week.
The Little Rock Animal Village is located at 4500 Kramer Street near the First Tee Golf Course off of South University Avenue. For more information, visit www.littlerock.gov or www.littlerockanimalvillage.org.
