(Friday, April 13, 2007) – In anticipation on the opening of the new Little Rock Animal Services Animal Village, a volunteer work day will be held on Saturday, April 21, from 8:00am to 2:00 pm.

According to City Director Joan Adcock, “This new facility is wonderful. We want to make sure that the landscaping looks as great as the building. We already have many volunteers who will be here helping us, but we would love to have more. In appreciation of their efforts, we will be providing a lunch to the people who come out on the workday.”

Among the tasks volunteers will be doing are: planting trees and shrubs, creating and planting flowerbeds, laying sod, spreading mulch, spreading compost, and raking. To date, volunteers will include employees from AutoTrader.Com, the City of Little Rock, Comcast, the Baseline Road Wal-Mart, and City of Faith as well as neighborhood leaders. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves and gardening tools, if possible.

The volunteer work day is sponsored by the Animal Services Advisory Board. The new $1.7 million Little Rock Animal Village site is located at 4500 South Kramer Street. It is located off of First Tee Drive (between Crain Ford and ITT on South University).
