LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, AUGUST 14, 2006: The State of Arkansas, Cities of Little Rock and North Little Rock, the Clinton Foundation, UAMS, PROJECT AR-K, Catholic Charities of Arkansas, Promiseland Ministries, Arkansas Inter-Faith Long Term Recovery Committee, and local churches are pleased to announce:
Katrina Anniversary: Counting Our Blessings Prayer Vigil and Celebration
DATE: August 29th, 2006
LOCATION: RIVERMARKET Pavilion and Amphitheater
6:00 p.m. GATES OPEN and EVENTS at the Pavilion
7:00 – 8:00 p.m. PROGRAM at the Amphitheater
8:00 – 9:00 p.m. EVENTS at the Pavilion
GATES CLOSE AT 9:00 p.m.
This event will bring together survivors, persons assisting in hurricane recovery, agencies assisting in hurricane recovery, the faith based organizations assisting in recovery, the general public and all those who wish to join us as we gather to renew hope and offer thanksgivings on the occasion of the anniversary of hurricane Katrina.
This event will include a time for survivors and those interested to access local resources, connect with survivors, enjoy activities for children, listen to a jazz quartet from New Orleans, Governor Huckabee has been invited to offer words of encouragement, Mayors of Little Rock and North Little Rock will speak, Judge Buddy Villines and hear a letter sent regarding the event by President Clinton, and hear a “Proclamation of Thanks” from Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans. Survivors and volunteers will speak, a gospel choir from First Baptist Church in North Little Rock will perform and local ministers will offer prayer and remembrance for the victims and survivors of last year’s hurricanes.
