Juvenile injured by gunshot)

Little Rock Police Officers responded to Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) in reference to a juvenile with a gunshot wound to the left hand. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Jomeeya Waller, the juvenile’s mother, who stated the incident took place at her home located at 7400 Lancaster Road around at 11 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022. Ms. Waller said she was bathing her younger child when she heard a gunshot coming from the direction of her bedroom.  When she walked into her bedroom, she realized that her older child had gone into her purse, located her pistol, and fired the pistol striking himself in the left hand. Waller told officers that she notified the father of the children, David Bell, who responded to the residence and transported his son to the hospital where the juvenile’s injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.

From ACH, Ms. Waller was transported back to her home by detectives where she gave consent to search and recover the firearm. From there, she was transported to the 12th Street Division and interviewed by detectives, released without charges, and taken back to the hospital. Officers subsequently contacted ACH’s social worker who advised that she would be notifying the Crimes Against Children Hotline of the incident.
