New workshop series for teens and adults coming to the River Market in January.

LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS (December 22, 2008) – An exciting new program that aims to teach teens & young adults the fundamental principles of hip-hop dance is coming to the River Market next month.

The Hip-Hop Dance Workshop will take place in the Bill & Margaret Clark Room on the 3rd Floor of the River Market on 5 Saturdays starting January 17th and continuing until February 14th, 2009. There will be three different classes each Saturday for three different age groups: Teens (grades 6-8), Young Adults (grades 9-12), and Adults (18 years & older). The cost for the entire 5-week course is $50 per participant.

The instructor for these classes will be Marcus Lindsey, a master of the hip-hop art who has been dancing since he was 8 years old. He began his hip-hop journey in San Francisco when he learned how to move like a robot from a mime artist. Shortly thereafter, Marcus began performing on stage and entertaining crowds as a street performer. In the 80’s he was a part of the Arkansas dance crew “Bubblin’ Brown Sugar.” Locals may also recognize Mr. Lindsey as “The Tin Man” from the River Market Farmers’ Market where he has been performing for the past four years.

Mr. Lindsey will not only be teaching his students how to pop and lock, but he also hopes to motivate and inspire participants to apply the basic principles of hip-hop dance to their everyday lives. Although this series is for beginners, the movements will require a great deal of focus and discipline. Hip-hop dance can also promote good heath and organizational skills. But above all, this workshop promises to be a lot of fun.

Anyone who is interested in signing up for the workshop may call the River Market office at (501) 375-2552. Forms are available on the River Market’s website, www.rivermarket.info.
