WHY: The 2011 Little Rock Healthy Eating and Active Living Summit is an opportunity to move forward with Mayor Mark Stodola’s 2011 State of the City, City-School partnership initiative entitled LOVE YOUR SCHOOL. Little rock leaders are convinced, and the scientific data supports their conclusion, that children who enter school undernourished cannot perceive, retain or excel in their academic endeavors. With this in mind Stodola called for a Healthy Food Summit designed to address the development of Little Rock’s local food shed, discuss measures that will lead to the elimination of food deserts and policies that will lead to the provision of nutritious, healthy and affordable food to all citizens of Little Rock. The Summit Planning Team, composed of more than 35 local organizations, has recruited distinguished speakers from across the United States to address food access and healthy living. The event is free (no registration fees or meal fees) and is open to the entire community.
