WHAT: 1st Annual Marks of Excellence Awards
WHEN: Saturday, March 22nd 2014 – Reception: 6:00p.m., Dinner 7:00p.m.
WHERE: Clinton Presidential Center Great Hall
The Greater Little Rock Chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) will host its first annual Marks of Excellence Awards Banquet on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Clinton Presidential Center. This event will recognize outstanding leaders in federal, state, county, municipal government and education.
NFBPA also recognizes the growing need to guide young individuals in the field of Public Service and Administration because they are soon to be the future leaders in our communities on multiple levels. This year we will continue a national tradition of giving scholarship grants to individuals who are pursuing a degree in the field of Public Administration so that we can help mold them into our future leaders.
This year’s honorees will be:
Federal Government – Edward Walker, Assistant United States District Attorney
Accomplishments: Assistant United States Attorney, Adjunct Professor – University of Arkansas School of Law, Junior Board Member of Arkansas Women and Children First and former Chair of the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Awareness First Council.
State Government – Former Senator/ Director, Bill Walker
Accomplishments: Currently serves as the Director of the Arkansas Department of Career Education. Has served as the National Chief Operating Office for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Commissioner on the Arkansas Parole Board, Eight years in the Arkansas State Senate, Six years in the Arkansas House of Representatives and the Pulaski County Quorum Court.
County Government – Justice of the Peace, Wilma Walker
Accomplishments: Has served on the National Association for Mental Health Board, President of the College Station Progressive League, Pulaski County Special School District as a Title 1 Coordinator and as an adult education counselor for 30 years, business owner of two businesses, State House of Representatives District 65.
Municipal Government – Little Rock City Manager, Bruce Moore
Accomplishments: Mr. Moore is the City’s longest serving City Manager first being appointed on December 17, 2002. He served as the lead City Staff person for the development of William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Center and Park and was instrumental in the planning of the 40th and 50th Anniversary commemorations of the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School. He is a member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), Arkansas City Manager’s Association (ACMA), First Vice President of the National Forum of Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) Board of Directors and Henderson State University Board of Trustees.
Education – Dexter Booth
Accomplishments: Has served as principal at Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High and Cloverdale Jr. High. Asst. Principal of J.A. Fair High, Hall High and Pulaski Heights Middle School. Mr. Booth served as Adult Education Administrator and Counselor and also created the GED program for Pulaski County jail inmates. He has been a part of 100 Black Men of Greater Little Rock and is Founder and Advisor to the Pi Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi at Arkansas Baptist College.
