City of Little Rock Public Relations (501) 371-6801
The Governance Structure Study Group, which is studying forms of government to make a recommendation on what form of government is best for the City of Little Rock, will seek public input on a variety of city governance issues on Thursday, June 13, at the Willie Hinton Neighborhood Resource Center; Monday, June 17, at Christ Little Rock; and Monday, June 24, at Immanuel Baptist Church. These meetings are the final meetings in a series of meetings in which the Study Group has sought public input on this topic.
Specific topics that the Study Group will solicit input on include:
• Mayor’s general appointment power to boards and commissions
• Mayor’s power to hire/fire city manager and city attorney
• Mayor’s voting power and veto power
• Types of ward structure (at-large representation and ward representation)
• Minimum voting percentage for elections of city directors and mayor
The Study Group will provide information on these topics, and members of the public will also be encouraged to respond to the following: “The best form of government is that which _______.”
The City Board of Directors approved a resolution to create the Study Group in December 2018. The Study Group includes seven ward representatives appointed by city directors from those wards and four at-large members appointed by the three at-large directors and Mayor Frank Scott, Jr.
