Southwest Patrol officers responded to a vehicle collision at the intersection of Mabelvale Pike and Legion Hut. When they arrived, they located the driver of one vehicle unresponsive. MEMS responded and pronounced the driver, 43-year-old Marquita Gantt, dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, Martin Cole, was transported to UAMS with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Patrol supervisors responded and notified the reconstruction unit who responded to process the scene and take photographs, collect evidence, take measurements, and notify the next of kin. At this point in the investigation, no charges have been filed pending a comprehensive review. This investigation is ongoing.
