Public Notice
City of Little Rock Public Relations (501) 371-6801
Just before 1:00 a.m. on October 31, 2022, Officers with the 12th Street Division were monitoring traffic near Asher and Johnson Street when radar showed a 2015 Dodge Durango traveling at a speed of approximately 55mph in a 30mph zone. In an attempt to stop the vehicle as it turned northbound on Woodrow Street, Officers activated lights and sirens for Speeding and Reckless Driving. Instead of stopping, the driver continued to accelerate; with speed escalating near 90 mph, the driver lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of 12th and Woodrow Street and careened into an electrical pole, overturning multiple times, before colliding with an unoccupied vehicle in the yard at 10th and South Woodrow. The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and officers rendered first aid until MEMS arrived and took the victim to an area hospital where he later died.
Accident Reconstruction Officers and the Crime Scene Search Unit responded to process the scene. The Coroner responded to the hospital and transported the victim to the State Crime Lab for autopsy. This investigation is ongoing and next of kin has not been notified.
Update: The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Colby Bell of Little Rock.
