On Sunday, August 14, 2022, at approximately 01:15 AM, officers in the Southwest Patrol Division responded to the 5300 block of S. University Ave for a pedestrian-involved traffic collision. 911 Callers reported a male was struck by a vehicle on the northbound side of S. University, reporting a black sedan to possibly be involved that left the scene. Upon the responding officer’s arrival, they located a pedestrian who was later identified as Jamaal Lewis (black male 41 years old) of Little Rock, AR. Medical personnel responded and confirmed Mr. Lewis had died as a result of his injuries.

Accident Reconstruction Officers and the Crime Scene Search Unit were requested to respond to the scene and collected information and measurements to assist in this investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, Mr. Lewis was walking across S. University Ave and was stuck by an unknown vehicle in the northbound lane. The unknown vehicle involved left the scene of the accident.
