What: Super Saturday – Free Tax Help Announcement
When: Friday, January 27, 2012 – 10:00 a.m.
Where: City Hall Rotunda – 500 W. Markham St.

Super Bowl weekend is a time of excitement and merriment. But for thousands of Little Rock residents, they don’t have to wait until that Sunday to celebrate. That’s because “Super Saturday” is a day they might find out whether they have more than $5,000 in tax credits coming to them.

Those Little Rock residents who are eligible for an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) can save up to $5,657.00. On Friday, January 27th, the City of Little Rock and other members of the EITC Coalition will announce their plans for a day of free tax help, called “Super Saturday.”

“We are committed to working with the Coalition to help Little Rock residents determine if they qualify for the EITC while they also provide free tax filing,” said Mayor Mark Stodola. “Many of our citizens don’t know they are eligible for this tax credit that’s available for low to moderate income families – usually those earning $50,000 or less.”

Super Saturday will be held at the Arkansas Workforce Center at 5401 South University and will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Reservations are encouraged but not required - to make an appointment call 682-7719. IRS certified volunteers from the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and AARP will be on hand to help participants complete and file their tax return, getting all of the refund due to them at no charge.

“During Super Saturday, participants will have electronic filing and direct deposit accounts available to them so they can get their return in 7-10 days – absolutely free of charge,” said Little Rock Workforce Investment Board Executive Director W.J. Monagle.

Super Saturday is put on by the EITC Coalition, which is made up of a diverse group of organizations such as: The City of Little Rock, Arkansas Workforce Center, Central Arkansas Development Council, the IRS and Entergy Arkansas, Inc.
