Equipment Clinic Offered by Little Rock Marathon Training Program

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (August 17, 2009) - A free informational clinic on running and walking equipment will be held Tuesday, August 18 at 6 pm in the Adult Leisure Center, 6401 W. 12th Street.

The Little Rock Marathon Training Program is presented by Heart Clinic Arkansas and KARK Channel 4 and is a free running/walking program created to prepare individuals who plan to take part in one of the races next March and is a project of Little Rock Parks & Recreation.

Led by Little Rock Marathon coaches Tom and Hobbit Singleton, the clinic is geared toward anyone interested in beginning a running or walking program.

“You can spend as much money as you want on gadgets and awesome training wear, but the things you need to be a runner or walker are pretty simple,” said Hobbit. “We give an overview of the basic necessities, as well as the items that are really cool to own, but won't keep you from training if you don't have them. Good shoes that fit are a must have, while a GPS wrist unit is a wait till you see if you're going to like doing all this training before you buy it.”

In addition to the marathon (26.2 miles) distance, schedules are available for the half marathon (13.1 miles), relay marathon (approximately a 10K), and a 5K. Schedules are available on the training section of the website.

The Little Rock Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay Marathon, and Classic Rockers Final Mile will be held March 7, 2010. The Little Rock 5K Fun Run/Walk and Little Rockers Kids Marathon Final Mile, presented by Arkansas Children’s Hospital and Today’s THV, will be held March 6, 2010.

Official training groups are now being formed across the state. Individuals interested in leading a training group outside of Central Arkansas are asked to contact the Singletons at single5297@yahoo.com to get more information.

Registration for the 2010 training program and the 2010 Little Rock Marathon (and companion races) are available online at www.littlerockmarathon.com.
