What: Dedication of Dale Nicholson Sculpture Plaza
When: Friday, September 20, 2013 – 11:00 a.m.
Where: Riverfront Park – next to the Belvedere Building
Those using Riverfront Park in Little Rock, Arkansas can enjoy a new addition of two sculptures made possible by the late Dale Nicholson and Sculpture at the River Market. Their location is near the Belvedere and is nestled under several large, shady trees. Their placements are near the east and west ends of a picnic plaza that was recently built by Parks and Recreation staff. “Patty Cake” is placed near the west end and “The Ties that Bind” is placed near the east end of the plaza.
“Patty Cake” was donated last year by Dale Nicholson in honor of Patsy, his wife of fifty-two years, after she had passed away. “The Ties that Bind” was donated by Sculpture at the River Market in honor of Dale Nicholson. This donation honors Dale’s passion and support for the creation of the River Market and his long term commitment to it and River Market Sculpture Show.
Both sculptures are close to life size and impart the exchange of love between a parent and child when playing and attending to each other. They are the creation of Jane DeDecker from Loveland Colorado who is an artist of the National Sculptors’ Guild. In addition to the sculptures’ placements, a picnic table and chairs have been placed on the plaza for visitors to enjoy watching play and eating in the park.
A dedication is scheduled for 11:00am, Friday, September 20, 2013 near the Belvedere in Riverfront Park that will name the new addition the “Dale and Patsy Nicholson Plaza”.
