LITTLE ROCK – The City of Little Rock has opened its cooling centers at local community centers because of forecasted excessive heat through the remainder of the week. The cooling centers will be open to the public through Saturday, Aug. 26.
The following cooling centers will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.:
- Dunbar Community Center, 1001 W. 16th St.
- East Little Rock Community Center, 2500 E. Sixth St.
- Southwest Community Center, 6401 Baseline Road
- Stephens Community Center, 3720 W. 18th St.
- West Central Community Center, 8616 Colonel Glenn Road.
The City of Little Rock cooling centers are open to any residents who need a safe, comfortable space for a break from the heat.
In addition, the City takes steps to protect its employees during periods of extreme heat. The City suspends outdoor work if heat index values are expected to reach 105 degrees or higher. In that event, yard waste pickup is delayed.
