Press Release

(Little Rock – August 6, 2012)

The Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department is taking advantage of the lack of rainfall this summer in order to perform some much needed repairs to the pond in Conner Park located at 13000 Cantrell Road.

When the pond was built as a private lake years ago, a drain pipe was installed and an overflow pipe put in place in order to regulate the level of the water. Over the years, this overflow pipe has deteriorated and as a result the water level has been affected.

The City’s plans are to partially drain the pond and repair or replace the overflow pipe which would re-establish the original intended level of the pond. Staff from the Arkansas Department of Game and Fish will help with the project and if need be, will help relocate the Conner Park fish to other park lakes around the city. The majority of the work will be performed by City of Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department staff.  The duration of the project will depend on what is found after the lake is drawn down and the original piping is exposed.

Once the pipe has been repaired, it will be up to Mother Nature to fill it up – restoring the pond to previous levels will depend entirely on the amount of rainfall received in the next few months. After water in the pond reaches the appropriate level, the Arkansas Department of Game and Fish will restock the pond and the City of Little Rock will notify residents that fishing at Conner Park is back on track.
