LITTLE ROCK – In anticipation of bitterly cold weather, the City of Little Rock will mobilize its temporary, emergency cold-weather shelter starting Sunday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Dunbar Community Center, 1001 W. 16th St.
The shelter will operate 24 hours a day from 6 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. The City's emergency shelter is available to anyone who needs a safe, warm and dry place to stay during periods of extremely cold weather.
The mobilization is based on recommendations from the City of Little Rock's Emergency Management Division. Shelter mobilization is contingent upon weather forecasts of extreme temperatures and/or precipitation dangerous to the life safety of unsheltered individuals. The City will continue to actively monitor weather conditions to determine if any changes to the current sheltering schedule are warranted.
The shelter is open to anyone seeking refuge from the cold temperatures. No identification is required, and pets are allowed in bedside kennels provided by the Little Rock Animal Village.
During mobilization, the Dunbar Community Center will be closed to other activities or programs.
Other community centers serve as warming centers during the winter, and they are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those are Southwest Community Center, 6401 Baseline Road; Stephens Community Center, 3720 W. 18th St.; and West Central Community Center, 8616 Colonel Glenn Road.
