More than 900 volunteers joined City Manager Bruce Moore and Mayor Mark Stodola for the 2nd Annual Keep Little Rock Beautiful’s (KLRB) Citywide Cleanup on Saturday, March 12th. The day’s activities kicked off at 8:00 a.m. at Hindman Park.

“It’s inspiring to see so many residents of Little Rock willing to give up a Saturday to better our community,” said Moore. “We are partnering with many schools and this is an important teaching moment for our children – we are in charge of protecting our environment.”

This cleanup is held in conjunction with the Keep America Beautiful (KAB) Great American Cleanup. Nationally, more than 3 million people will volunteer over 6 million hours to clean, beautify and improve 17,000 communities during 30, 000 events from coast to coast. KLRB is a certified local affiliate of KAB. It is a nonprofit, volunteer-based community organization dedicated to litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction and beautification.

“We are thrilled that the City of Little Rock asked Keep Little Rock Beautiful to lead this effort, “ said Suzanne Hirrel, a KLRB board member. “Our goal is to empower and energize Little Rock residents to take action. Just look around your own neighborhood and see what needs to be done to improve it.”

o Kanis Park (Rodney Parham Road at Mississippi Street)
o Crump Park (3309 S. State St.)
o Interstate Park (I-30 and Arch Street, near 33rd and Short streets)
o Union Park (36th and Walker streets)
o Meriwether Park (1401 Florida St.)
o Benny Craig Park (4610 Gum Springs Rd.)
o Riverfront Park (LaHarpe Blvd.)
o Reservoir Park (8321 Reservoir Rd.)
o MacArthur Park (601 E. 9th St.)
o Morehart Park (9300 Mablevale Cut-Off)
o Centennial Park (1501 S. Battery St.)
o Allsopp Park (3700 Cedar Hill Rd.)
o Wakefield Park (7401 Woodson Rd.)
o Otter Creek Park (11500 Stagecoach Rd.)
o Murray Park (Rebsamen Park Road)
o River Mountain Park (34 River Mountain Rd.)

Other Little Rock neighborhood associations, churches, civic groups, schools, youth organizations, businesses and other groups were involved in this citywide effort.

“Last year we had 20 sites involving 350 volunteers,” said Mayor Stodola. “ this year, we’ve more than doubled both of those figures. The residents of Little rock are sending a clear message – we want a clean community to live, work and play in!”
